Acupuncture is one of the oldest and safest forms of alternate health care used today. Its gentle therapy which uses fine sterile disposable needles and electrical stimulation.

The needles are inserted at varying depths with the aim to reach either neurovascular or soft tissue structures.

A few physiological changes that take place are:

i) release of opioid peptides

ii) stimulation of hypothalamus and pituitary gland

iii) secretion of neurotransmitters and neurohormones

iv) changes in blood flow both centrally and peripherally
